![]() ![]() I haven’t spent time with any of that stuff. I don’t really know that much about this guy, sounds like an interesting type. Stevie Moore, though maybe it’s more sound collage-mash-up than organic composition. It sounds like slightly skewed freak-folk-into-freak-garage a la Brother JT, R. Way out of my reviewing zone, though…should probably defer to the experts on this.Įrgo Phizmiz – The Peacock …liking this one, too, though maybe not enough to write about it. The Roots – ….And Then You Shoot Your Cousin …Wildly uneven, overstuffed with guests and references, I can’t really get a handle on this as a whole, but there are a couple of songs I really like – “Black Rock” and “Understand” mostly. There are a couple of songs - I’m thinking “Welcome Home” by Radical Face and “Black Fur” by Fredrik - that strike me as almost perfect examples of a certain kind of baroque pop…and Duplekeita gets pretty close to that a couple of times, esp. ![]() Probably my favorite record of its type (sons of Elliott Smith and Kelley Stoltz) for this year.ĭuplekita – Sound of My Name …Mildly electrified baroque pop, I guess, with some sort of tie to Faunts, if anybody remembers Faunts. ![]() Setting Sun – Be Here When You Get Here …I’m pretty sure I’ve mentioned this one before, but it’s a very, very nice bit of strummy guitar pop with a little bit of edge in the lyrics, reminds me a lot of the Folk Implosion and later Sebadoh. ![]() I’ve been trying to draw a parallel between Kyle and Marc Bolan and it sort of works through the folkie-to-psych-glam-rock trajectory, but I don’t know what to do with Witch and Happy Birthday to make it fit. King Tuff – Black Moon Spell (Sub Pop) …this one I like a lot, much tougher and more aggressive in the guitars than past King Tuff. Goat – Commune (Sub Pop) (out in August) …liking bits of this, like the opening bars of guitar which have a really west African fluidity, but not that into the dance/ritual/chant/communal thing that they do with it…though honestly I’ve only listened twice and only closely once. In our second helping of some of the internal chatter that goes on at Dusted, David Kilgour, Reigning Sound and the Staple Singers get their jangle discussed. ![]()
